Sandra Carter (BSc Hons Mathematics, Member of the Institute Chartered Accountants of England & Wales)
Following a BSc Hons deg in Mathematics from Coventry University Sandra joined a firm of Chartered Accountants in Birmingham. During her four years with this firm she qualified as a UK Chartered Accountant.
Upon qualification Sandra left public practice and took a role as Assistant Accountant within a firm that provided care in residential homes to people with severe learning difficulties. She implemented new financial and procedural systems to manage the rapid growth of the company.
Following this Sandra moved to a software company with an international presence where she progressed from Assistant UK Financial Controller to European Financial Controller. This involved a lot of liaison with the other countries.
With the arrival of her daughter in 2002 Sandra left work to concentrate on being a Mum. In 2006, a chance reading of a ‘business for sale’ ad in a local newspaper one dark, cold, rainy UK night made her and her husband both take note, as it appeared to be their dream business – kayaking, tramping and cycling. The business on the West Coast of New Zealand was not to be - why swap one wet life for another? But it did make them rethink their long held wish to emigrate and months later in August 2007 their new lives began. With their daughter settled into school Sandra applied for a position with Accounting Tasman Ltd where she has been working ever since.
Sandra loves the outdoor life this region offers, and together with her husband and daughter spends much of her spare time exploring this beautiful place. She is happy to support the All Blacks unless they are playing Wales. Once a Welsh girl always a Welsh girl!
